EVANGELISM & CHURCH GROWTH continued from page 1

EL PIPILA, TIJUANA

The Nueva Vida Mission of the El Pipila neighborhood of Tijuana grew out of our health and development ministry as that squatters' community grew in the 90's. Pueblos Hermanos Co-coordinator Enrique Romero has been pastor the past six years as the mission grows towards becoming a chartered church next year.

Praise Team Makes Music Come Alive

Efrain Romero has developed the Nueva Vida Praise Team over the past two years into an accomplished musical group, finding instruments, training musicians, endless practice sessions. The team leads  Sunday morning worship as well as special events like this October's evangelistic meetings.

New Worship Area/Fellowship Hall

The growth and development of the Pípila mission has been greatly facilitated by its new multipurpose addition made possible by a generous grant from the Providence Presbyterian Church of Fairfax, Virginia.  The 33'x44' shell was dedicated in August of 2002, and it has been used for worship, fellowship and children's ministries as interior finishing work has proceeded.

LA PLANICIE, TIJUANA

Pueblos Hermanos helped the Mexican Northwest Border Presbytery start the Dios Es Amor Mission in the La Planicie neighborhood of Tijuana in 1998, with economic sponsorship by Rev. Samuel Woo and the United Korean Presbyterian Church of Los Angeles.  Pueblos Hermanos has provided much support with mission teams, pastoral supervision, evangelistic campaigns, salary help, and many community health and development projects in conjunction with the mission. After three years the mission suffered a scandal in the removal of its founding pastor, from which it is now finally recovering.

New Pastor, New Facilities, New People
For Dios Es Amor Mission in La Planicie

David Gutierrez began pastoring the "Dios Es Amor" mission in July 2002 as he began his last year of seminary.  He arrived with his wife, Carmita, and their three-year-old daughter, Genesis, as the congregation was completing three new Sunday School classrooms and a bathroom area built by the youth of La Jolla PC, California.
David's first year as pastor was challenging and filled with hard work meeting people, sharing his faith, praying with them and for them, but church attendance did not grow.  Then, as his first year was coming to a close, the fruits of his labor began to come forth at the end of that first year  .  The congregation is certainly growing now with 20 adults and more than 30 children attending each Sunday.

Pastor David Gutierrez reaches the children at a Vacation Bible School; he's reaching adults, too.
