Sharing the Gospel and Growing Churches

New Missions and Home Bible Studies

Pueblos Hermanos has launched a new church development led by Co-coordinator Enrique Romero through home Bible studies in the eastern growing edge of Tijuana, doing a door to door survey to identify community needs and to invite people to study the Bible. This is in coordination with, and helping to lead the Presbytery’s new vision of reaching the people and building up new churches throughout Baja California.

Several churches have started their own mission outreach points. The Dios Es Amor Mission in La Planicie, Tijuana, has started an outreach from the home of Brother Noé up in the hills of Altiplano 5ta Sección. Folk of Dios Con Nosotros in Otay drive 1/2 hour to lead worship in the ... (more on page 2  and   Evangelism Meeting in Altiplano)

Salud y Vida Health Impact in Five Neighborhoods

Our Community Health Nurse Martha Gonzalez continues to touch the lives of families in three poor neighborhoods teaching hygiene and mental health classes to children and parenting classes to adults (578 students, 137 parents this past school year). She is a gifted and inspiring teacher, helping people grow in self esteem and communication skills. Out of her personal contacts with families she shares the Gospel – many are coming to know Christ as their Lord and Savior and grow in their faith.

This year she has added more systematic preventive health campaigns, partnering with two NGO’s to provide screening and follow up for early detection of cancer, diabetes and hypertension in the three poor neighborhoods she has ministered in plus two more. Health promoters she trains help motivate participation in screenings and follow-up individuals who test positive. (more on page 4 & www.PueblosHermanos.org/health.htm)

Mission Teams Build Ministries & Relations

This year mission teams from 18 different churches brought more than 350 people to Mexico to serve and share in the life and ministry of 10 Presbyterian churches in Baja California. They built houses, a class room and medical dispensary, helped run vacation Bible schools and evangelistic campaigns, made new friends, worshiped together, played together and prayed together with their Mexican sisters and brothers. And ate a lot of good food.

Alex Bahamaca, who was our Mission Team Facilitator in 2001 & 2002, returned for a week of volunteer work with his wife Laura (who he met on a mission trip, of course). He drives slower now.

English classes were added this year. Folk from Steel Creek PC of Charlotte, NC learned English as a 2nd language techniques for two months and then taught adults, youth and children in La Planicie and El Pipila. (more Mission Team news on page 3)
